Overview
Cully is one of Portland's most culturally and economically diverse neighborhoods, with a strong community identity and some of the city's best remaining green spaces. Cully is home to Portland's largest concentration of Latino-owned businesses, and its main commercial corridors on NE Cully Boulevard and NE Killingsworth Street offer a dining scene that reflects the neighborhood's rich diversity.
History
Cully was one of the last areas of Portland to be developed, with much of its land remaining in agricultural use until the mid-20th century. It was annexed by Portland in the 1980s, making it one of the city's newest officially recognized neighborhoods. The area was historically home to working-class families, and its relative isolation from Portland's rapid gentrification has preserved its economic diversity. The Cully Boulevard Alliance, a community development organization, has led efforts to improve infrastructure, create green spaces, and support local businesses. The neighborhood is home to the annual Cully Festival, celebrating its multicultural character.
