Lents
Overview
Lents is one of Portland's most exciting up-and-coming neighborhoods, with a historic main street corridor, a massive park undergoing a revival, and a food cart scene that rivals any in the city. Long overlooked, Lents is experiencing a renaissance driven by community investment, new development, and one of the most diverse populations in Portland.
History
Lents was originally an independent town, platted in 1892 and named for pioneer Orange Lents. It was annexed by Portland in 1912. The neighborhood center around 92nd Avenue and Foster Road was a thriving commercial district in the early 20th century, with streetcars connecting it to Downtown. Lents declined in the mid-century as suburbanization and redlining took their toll. In the 2010s and 2020s, major investments in Lents Park, the MAX Green Line light rail, and a new town center plan sparked a revival. Today, Lents is one of Portland's most racially and economically diverse neighborhoods, with a strong sense of community identity.
